Internship at Port Norfolk and Nauticus

Updated: Jan 16

This is Ken and my very first day at Nauticus. This was such an amazing experience. We were so excited and everyone around us was too! They were going on a cruise! Or they were working on the cruise ship. Or they were there to get people checked-in or sent home. Frowns from the people having to get off and smiles for those about to board.

Kenneth after our 5th giant white christmas tree for Winterfest on the Wisconsin! This is a yearly event that they go all out for. We helped make it a success. Nauticus even won the 2025 Heavyweight Division of ABC's "The Great Christmas Light Fight" that aired in December.

Everyone wants a picture of beautiful ships parked in our beautiful sister port.

We were the greeter's onto the Carnival Sunshine this day. Watching people's faces light up as they enter was a joy to watch.

Carnival signs greet you as you walk through the terminal. Ken took this picture when he had a chance to visit the terminal back in March when Carnival first got here. It was such an amazing feeling to walk these halls later in the year to help be of service to the city of Norfolk.

The Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center greets and says goodbye to close to 7000 guests each weekend.

Even in the rain...

Ken maning the "loop"!

Working hard, working hard. It's a serious job.

When we went to meet the captain, we got to stand in "the bridge" and see what the captain sees.

Us having fun working together.

This is what greets you when you step into the Carnival Sunshine. Isn't she lovely?

Us making friends where ever we go! This is Ben the Head Maitre D on the Carnival Sunshine. Great guy who loves his job!

Received the $2500 Visit Norfolk Scholarship to remain in school.

Not sure what my hair was doing this day, but our friend, homie and co-worker Jarrell, (who also happens to be the social media master for Nauticus) snapped a few pictures of us while we welcomed the German guests on the Mein Schiff to Norfolk and her sister cities.

Ready and prepared for the cold weather.

We put in 240 hours a piece meeting close to 7000 people each weekend.

Bright eyed and bushy tailed.

It's the battle of the city workers. VB against Norfolk!! Joking. We love Hampton Roads!

This was a great internship. We look forward to volunteering at the Nauticus this semester as well!
